Support work, the honest version.

We support people of all ages from 3 up with complex behaviour needs across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter, with particular depth in early intervention for children and young people. The work is genuinely rewarding and genuinely hard, and we would rather you knew which parts are which before you applied.

Who we're looking for

Reliable, calm, and willing to be coached.

You would support people of all ages from 3 up who are non-speaking, autistic and living with intellectual disability, many with significant behaviours of concern. Our deepest work is early intervention with children, and we do not stop supporting someone when they have a birthday. Mostly one to one, often solo, in their home or out in the community. Personal care is part of it. You follow each participant's documented plans exactly as written, and you write clear shift notes every shift, to a standard we audit.

Complex behaviour support is demanding work, and providers who burn out their staff lose them, which means participants lose continuity. We design shifts to be sustainable, build training into work hours rather than personal time, and keep workers genuinely informed about the risks they're managing. Looking after our team is how we look after the people they support.

You don't need experience or a qualification. We hire for reliability, calm and coachability, and we train the rest.

Personal Details

Let's start with the basics.

Please enter a valid email address.

Please enter your full name.

We collect your date of birth at onboarding, where it is needed for your checks and payroll.

Please select an option.

Please enter your mobile number.

Just the suburb is enough — it tells us which shifts are a realistic drive for you. We ask for your full address later, only if we offer you the job.

Please enter your home address.

Experience & Skills

Tell us about your background in disability support. No experience is required for this role.

Every one of these is part of the job on an ordinary shift. A no here is not a mark against you. It means the role is not the right fit, and we would both rather know now.

Please select an option.

You are trained and signed off before you ever do this, never on your first shifts. One thing that surprises people: you are never asked to catch, lift or take a participant's body weight. Manual handling here is limited to trained supportive guidance, escort and restrictive practice techniques.

Every shift runs through it. Rosters, shift notes and incident reports go into an online care management system, and we use AI tools day to day as well. You do not need experience with our particular systems, we train you on those, but you do need to be comfortable learning software on a screen.

Please select your comfort level.

The role's requirements

These are the inherent requirements of the job, written out plainly. We ask whether you can meet them, never about your health or a diagnosis.

Asking for an adjustment never counts against your application. It starts a conversation, not a decline.

Please select an option.

The same rule applies. Asking for an adjustment never counts against your application.

Please select an option.

Optional, and only as much as you want to share. This is about the requirements listed above, not your medical history. We are not asking for a diagnosis and you do not need to name a condition. We use it for one thing: working out what adjustments would help. Only the two directors read it, it is never used to screen applications, and if we do not take your application further we delete it at that point rather than keeping it on file. Asking never counts against you.

Suitability

A few practical questions about your availability and logistics.

Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens: yes. If you are on a visa that lets you work, that is also yes — tell us about any conditions below.

Please select an option.

Optional, and only about your visa — for example a student visa hour limit. We are not asking about your health here.

CTP and comprehensive insurance must be in place before your first shift, not before you apply. We check the certificate at the offer stage.

Please select an option.

The role needs a full (unrestricted) licence; a provisional licence is not enough for this role. We sight the licence itself on a short video call only if we make you an offer, never before.

Screening Questions

These questions are a standard part of working with vulnerable people. Answering honestly will not automatically disqualify you.

You need to already hold it when you apply, at your own cost. It can take weeks to issue, so we cannot progress an application without it. Not holding it yet? Apply through Service NSW now, and come back to us once it is issued.

Please select an option.

It is on your clearance email and in your MyServiceNSW account. We ask for it now so an offer is not held up; we verify it in the NDIS Commission’s database only if we make you an offer, and if we do not take your application further we delete it at that point. If you do not have it to hand, leave this blank and we will ask at the offer stage.

A paid-worker check, not a volunteer one. The same rule applies: you need to already hold it when you apply, at your own cost.

Please select an option.

A paid-worker number starts with WWC and ends with E. Same rule: we verify it only if we make you an offer, and delete it if we do not. Leave it blank if you do not have it to hand.

The same rule applies. Infection control training and the NDIS Worker Orientation Module are free online modules you complete before your first shift, not before you apply.

Please select an option.

As a registered NDIS provider, Cosmic Care is required by the NDIS (Practice Standards) Rules 2018 and the NDIS Code of Conduct to conduct thorough screening of all workers. This includes criminal history, professional conduct, and working-with-children checks.

A disclosed matter will not automatically exclude you from employment. All disclosures are assessed on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the nature, relevance, and recency of the matter.

What we do with your answers. Cosmic Care Pty Ltd (ABN 53 647 511 153, jobs@cosmiccare.com.au, 0493 596 161) collects this application to decide whether to offer you a role. Only the two directors read it. We do not share it with other providers or recruiters, and we never use it for marketing.

If we make you an offer, some details go further so the checks can happen — your name and date of birth to the Office of the Children’s Guardian and the NDIS Commission, your travel document to the Department of Home Affairs for a visa check, and the physical requirements of the role to the physiotherapist or doctor who does your assessment. We take advice from Peninsula, our HR advisers, if a decision about you is difficult. We ask your written permission first for each of those. Your check numbers are asked for on this form so an offer is not held up; they are verified only when we make you an offer, and deleted at that point if we do not.

How long we keep it. If we do not take your application further, we delete your form, resume, uploaded documents and our notes 12 months after you apply — sooner if you ask. Anything you tell us about an adjustment or your health is deleted the moment we decide not to proceed, not at 12 months.

Your rights. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it early — just email jobs@cosmiccare.com.au. If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, tell us and we will respond; you can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. Our full Privacy Policy explains more.

You do not need to tell us about charges that did not lead to a conviction, or about convictions that are spent under the Criminal Records Act 1991 (NSW).

Please select an option.

Optional. You can raise it at the phone screen instead, and a disclosure is never an automatic bar.

For example drink or drug driving, or dangerous driving. The same rule as above applies: you do not need to tell us about charges that did not lead to a conviction, or about convictions that are spent under the Criminal Records Act 1991 (NSW). We ask because the role involves driving participants.

Please select an option.

Optional. You can raise it at the phone screen instead.

For example the NDIS Commission, AHPRA or the HCCC. We are asking about outcomes, not about being involved in a process — a complaint that went nowhere, or one where you were the person who raised it or a witness, is a No.

Please select an option.

Optional. Which body, and what the outcome was.

This does not ask about orders that protect you. If you are, or have been, the person an order protects, answer No — that is never something we take into account, and it is not our business.

Please select an option.

We are asking about those three things only. Disciplinary action over a pay dispute, a safety complaint you raised, taking leave you were entitled to, or a union matter is a No.

Please select an option.

About you

One short written question, then tell us what you already have.

It does not have to be paid work. Study, sport, volunteering and side projects all count. What was it, roughly how long did you stick at it, and what kept you turning up on the days you did not feel like it? Four to eight sentences is plenty. Plain and specific beats polished, we are not marking spelling or grammar, and there is no right answer. This is the part we read most closely.

Applied on Seek and already answered this in your cover letter? Write “as per my cover letter” here and we score that one.

Please answer this one. It is the part we read most closely.
